Billerica Boys Varsity Indoor Track team opened its season Monday, December 16th at Boston University. Competing against every team in the Merrimack Valley Conference, the Billerica Boys finished 8-2 beating Dracut 83-17, Haverhill 73.66-26.33, Tewksbury 66-34, Andover and Chemsford 67-33, Methuen 63.66-36.33, Lawrence 58-42, and North Andover 56-44. They lost to Central Catholic 64-36 and Lowell 63-37.
The success of many individuals contributed to the team’s success. In the 55 meter dash, senior Ryan D’Agostino finished 5th overall and sophomore Andrew Raymond finished in 15th. In the 55 meter hurdles, senior Mitchell Wilder finished 10th. In the 300 meter dash, seniors Stephen Harris and Rodrigo Freitas finished 1st and 2nd respectively. Senior Billy West finished 11th. In the 600 meter run, senior Gachau Kabuga finished 11th. In the 1000 meter run, senior Jack Holden finished 6th. In the 1 Mile, senior Thomas Dinsmore finished 1st. In the 2 Mile, senior Brandon Marion finished 8th and sophomore Conor Doherty finished 12th. Harris tied for 6th in the high jump, while sophomores Colton Jacques and Anthony Magliozzi both tied for 11th. In the long jump D’Agostino and Wilder finished 9th and 20th respectively. In the shot put, seniors James Pope and Michael Morrison finished 1st and 20th respectively. The Billerica 4x200 relay team of Wilder, Andre Malcolm-Goodwin, D’Agostino, and Harris finished 2nd and the 4x400 relay team of Freitas, West, Kabuga, and Dinsmore finished 3rd.
It was a great start to what will hopefully be an incredible season. With many PRs (personal records) and state-meet qualifying performances, the boys team looks the strongest it has been in years. They are all eager to show what they can do. The team’s next meet will be the Boston Holiday Challenge Friday, December 27th.
